David Stooke
17th Feb 2022...."Three old drawings from 38 years ago. These days I work from photos but back then I drew from life, or "en plein air", sketching the scenes I encountered on my travels, and filling sketchbooks with these drawings. A large amount of these old pictures have never been seen by anyone. My dream is to get my own book published one day, where all my traveller and festival art can be brought together: the paintings and portraits that are well known, and all these unseen old drawings, in to one weighty tome. Whether it'll ever happen remains to be seen but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!"
17th Feb 2023....This (above) post was exactly a year ago today and I mentioned my dream of bringing out a book that gathered together all of my New Age Traveller and festival art in one weighty tome. Such was the feedback at the time that the decision was made, there and then, to make this dream a reality. The 12 months since have been hard work but now the book is only a matter of weeks away!
The contents will include:
132 Paintings and Drawings from 1982 to the present day
Photography (a large proportion of which have never been published before) by:
Roger Elliott
Nick Cowen
Colin Higgs
Peter Gardner
Alan Lodge
And myself
- - - - - - - - -
Written Contributions by:
Mike Dines
Jon Green
Kenneth Williams
Helen Hatt
And myself again!
- - - - - - - - - -
The book itself:
Large format, hard cover, 168 pages, traditionally sewn binding, heavy weight paper, and litho printed throughout to guarantee the best quality - no ink rubbing off on the opposite pages, as the cheaper ink jet method is prone to do.
From the very first drawing, "Stonehenge 1982 - The View from the Tent" to the most recent painting I'm still working on now, it's a 41 year labour of love and the culmination of a dream. I really hope people will support this project and purchase a copy to go alongside "Medieval Brigands", "Travelling Daze" and all the other books telling our story and keeping these precious memories alive.
